Hawzah News Agency- Iran’s martyred Leader, at critical junctures of his leadership, steered the country through immense dangers. This was the fruit of his unparalleled courage, self-confidence, and reliance on God, as well as his profound belief in the extraordinary resilience, capability, and miraculous creativity of the Iranian people—a point he emphasized repeatedly at various stages. This martyrdom has become, and will forever remain, a great turning point in the glorious history of the great nation of Iran.
The Hawzah News Agency extends its heartfelt condolences and sympathy over the tragic martyrdom of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Grand Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, along with a number of his noble and dignified family members and military commanders.
As a matter of principle, leaders of states and religious figures, even in the midst of war, are entitled to immunity. During the aggressive and brutal war waged by the United States against Vietnam, numerous Buddhist monks and leaders took a stand in support of the people and their country’s independence. In protest against the widespread bombing of cities, at least seven of them self-immolated in public squares. Yet, not one of them, nor their religious centers, was ever targeted.
Similarly, during the First and Second World Wars, no church officials in Europe were ever purposefully attacked or assassinated. This was despite the fact that the Catholic, Protestant, and Orthodox churches—whose relations today are close and cordial—were then marked by coldness, mutual suspicion, and bitter historical memories. Moreover, each of these churches, in its own way, supported its respective government embroiled in the war. Some, like the Russian Orthodox Church, stood firmly in support of the Soviet Union and the deeply anti-religious regime of Stalin, viewing them—as they stated—as the symbol and embodiment of the independence and pride of their "Motherland." The Germans never attacked them.
This heinous crime was committed two days after the third round of Geneva talks, which were attended by the highest-ranking American officials. To demonstrate their seriousness about negotiations, they even included the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Rafael Grossi, in the discussions. Four and a half hours were held in the morning, and two in the afternoon. The parties involved spoke of the talks as positive and constructive, a view shared by the Omani side. It was agreed that they would return to their capitals and resume negotiations at the earliest opportunity.
It was in this atmosphere that this sudden and cowardly attack was carried out. The Leader was at his workplace, and the attackers knew full well that his workplace and his family residence were adjacent to one another. Despite this, they carried out such a vicious assault. This assassination was not carried out in the heat of battle, which might have been somewhat understandable. They initiated the war without any pretext, dragging women and young children into bloodshed.
The Israeli side labeled the attack a pre-emptive action. Firstly, such a concept is not well-defined in legal terms and lacks clear boundaries. Secondly, there were no admissible, court-worthy indications of an imminent threat to justify such a pre-emptive strike.
Another point concerns the Americans. They put forward certain justifications for the aggression. However, the assessment and, if necessary, action in such cases rest with the United Nations and the Security Council—not with the U.S. government nor any other country. They must evaluate, judge, and, if required, act. Though under the current U.S. administration, the United Nations and all its bodies have been instrumentalized. Never before has U.S. policy toward the UN been so unbridled and arbitrary.
Many were martyred in this barbaric act. Foremost among them is the Leader of the Islamic Revolution. He hailed from one of the most renowned and noble clerical families. His personal and family life stands as one of the most transparent and honorable. There is not the slightest hint of impropriety in any chapter of his distinguished life—neither before his presidency, nor after, nor during his tenure as Leader. Indeed, his esteemed family embodied the same principles. They adhered deeply to all that is required and expected of a great religious personality—a precious quality for one holding the position of leadership.
At critical moments during his leadership, he delivered the nation from grave dangers. This was the result of his rare courage, confidence, and trust in God, alongside his deep conviction in the remarkable capacities, resilience, and miraculous ingenuity of the Iranian people—a truth he reaffirmed time and again on various occasions.
This martyrdom has become and will continue to be a defining turning point in the proud history of the great Iranian nation. May God envelop that great, iron-willed soul and all those martyred alongside him in His boundless mercy, and may He Himself compensate for this immense loss.
